The Licensing Regime for Property Management Companies (PMCs) and Property Management Practitioners (PMPs) (Licensing Regime) will commence with effect from tomorrow, 1 August 2020. The PMSA appeals to PMCs and PMPs to apply for licence as soon as possible.
Mr Tony TSE, the PMSA Chairperson said, “The Licensing Regime aims to enhance the quality and professionalism of the property management industry, with a view to providing quality and professional property management services to the community. I hereby appeal to PMCs and PMPs to apply for licence as soon as possible. Since the implementation of the Licensing Regime on 1 August was announced, nearly 400 PMCs and PMPs have made appointments to apply for PMC / PMP (including formal and provisional) licence. I thus wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the support from the property management industry.”
To allow the industry sufficient time to adapt, there will be a three-year transitional period after the Licensing Regime comes into operation. During the transitional period, PMCs and PMPs may choose, but are not required, to be licensed. “PMPs who do not meet the licensing requirements of academic and/or professional qualifications but possess the specified work experience may apply for provisional PMP licence within the transitional period. By attending a PMSA Specified Course and upon completion of the study, a PMP may apply for a formal licence without having to comply with the requirements of academic and/or professional qualifications. Currently there are 4 educational institutions appointed to provide PMSA Specified Courses,” Mr TSE added.
Appointment booking and application procedures for PMC / PMP licence are simple. Applicants can apply for licence via the PMSA website at www.pmsahk.org.hk.
In response to Government’s appeal to reduce the risk of the spread of novel coronavirus in the community, the PMSA office now only provides essential and limited services. General services such as enquiries will be handled through phone or email. However, the PMSA office reception counter will remain open during office hours to provide licence application services for applicants with appointment made in advance.
